Northwest Region

Barack Obama School of Career & Technical Education
One of the only K-12 schools in Wisconsin, Barack Obama School of Career and Technical Education is located on the Northside of Milwaukee. City Year Corps Members have been serving at the Oval Office for 3 years and serve in grades 3-8. Our students are able to take Project Lead the Way STEM classes as early as 5th grade and have the opportunity to sharpen their life and academic skills through SkillsUSA participation. BOSCTE always keeps it Presidential like our namesake!   

  • As City Year corps members, you have the opportunity to help shape the culture.  The school has plenty of opportunities to host school-wide initiative, space for small group tutoring, and room for creativity! 
  • One class for each grade creates a small community of students and enables you to have strong relationships with students in your own class and others.
  • With only six corps members, it is a great opportunity to take on more responsibility and grow as an individual. It also creates a close-knit team and community. There is high-visibility of City Year in the school.

James Madison Academic Campus
Serve & guide JMAC 9th grade students through their first year of high school. Mostly African American and growing Hmong population on MKE’s northside. #JMACmatters #studentsfirstcollaborationalways

  • JMAC corps members will support math, English, Citizenship, and intervention classes in addition to supporting the whole school through events and participating in community school initiatives.
  • We support the school’s college and career readiness focus through leading the annual college and career fair as well as supporting NAF Academy events.
  • JMAC is part of the Milwaukee Partnership Grant, a collaboration initiative between City Year, the Boys and Girls Club, and MPS in order to offer holistic support of students and increase academic growth.

North Region

Dr. George Washington Carver Academy of Mathematics & Science
Carver Academy is a K-8 school located near Downtown Milwaukee.  City Year is entering its 5th year at Carver and we are fortunate to have a defined role here that still allows for flexibility and creativity.

  • Carver has a strong school culture that is reflected in our weekly assemblies, the structure of our school days, the passion of its faculty and staff, and the incorporation of City Year into its daily routines.
  • 94.3% of our student body identify as African American and are from all over Milwaukee.
  • City Year has many close and collaborative relationships within Carver, not only with Carver staff, but also with other education focused organizations such as SPARK, Boys and Girls Club, and Teach for America.

Clarke Street School
Clarke Street School serves as the neighborhood school for about 350 students in grades K3-8.  2017-2018 will be its third year as a City Year partner school.

  • Clarke Street School maintains a strong partnership with Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee and City Year in the after school space
  • Located on Milwaukee’s Northwest side, Clarke Street School values its strong partnerships with 12 local organizations, including City Year; and works to continue to develop these relationships.
  • The 3rd through 8th grade classrooms are fully saturated by City Year AmeriCorps Members, which helps attain consistency in support to students and teachers, while building a stronger school culture that includes City Year, students, teachers, administrators and community partners.

Hopkins Lloyd Community School
Hopkins Lloyd Community School is a veteran led, family oriented, community school where we don’t give up, we EAGLE UP to meet the needs of our students and families.

Roosevelt Middle School of the Arts
Opportunities to improve school culture and climate are plentiful at an original partner school, Roosevelt. Our enthusiastic principal always has City Year’s back! Running our own after school program gives us ownership in the space.

  • Turnaround Arts Program – Kennedy Center Program meant to use arts as a tool to improve attendance, behavior and provide other avenues of learning for students.
  • Violence Free Zone in RMSA – provide mentoring services to students in MPS to help students overcome barriers and achieve academic success. VFZ is a huge asset for teachers and City Year!
  • City Year start up school – Since City Year has been in Milwaukee, we have been in Roosevelt. We are a clear partner in the school and have champions throughout administration and teaching staff.

Rufus King International Middle School
Serving RKIMS gives you the chance to interact with hundreds of 6th-8th graders and create fun/meaningful experiences in our own after school program.

  • International Baccalaureate school that promotes learners to be: Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced, and Reflective.
  • Easily accessible, roomy, and remodeled school facilities make for an environment that meets just about any planning and space need.
  • Opportunity to build stronger community partnerships with parents and leaders to support our work with students.

South Region

    Alexander Mitchell Integrated Arts School
    Alexander Mitchell Integrated Arts School is a bilingual K-8 school located on the Southside of Milwaukee near Historic Mitchell Street. City Year is ingrained into the school culture and Mitchell community, as our partnership is entering its eighth year.

    • City Year collaborates with school partners, including MPS, Boys & Girls Club and SPARK, to develop and implement our principal’s whole-school, student-centered vision.
    • Bilingual education is offered in grades K3-8th grade. City Year corps members run daily interventions in ELA and Math during Mitchell’s built-in intervention block.
    • Mitchell has high parent and community engagement. In a given week, you will find parents taking classes in the parent center, supporting with events, visiting classrooms, hosting fundraisers, beautifying our school, and more. 

    Bay View High School
    BVHS is STEAM focused offering experiences to 800 students from all over Milwaukee. Our 9th grade academy builds community through collaboration and restorative practices.

    • Our 9th Grade Academy is known for its supportive nature which embodies the value of teamwork. Go Redcats!!!!
    • We have creative ability to provide unique experiences, events and initiatives with the resources to support them.
    • Located on the southeast shore of Milwaukee, an extremely supportive community, BVHS has a beautiful view of Lake Michigan providing each day with a fresh perspective for a positive can do attitude. 

    Rogers Street Academy
    Rogers Street Academy serves a predominantly Latin@ student body, whose working-class families live throughout the city of Milwaukee.  Rogers has been a City Year partner for all 7 years and fosters intensive collaboration between MPS, Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, and City Year. 

    • Rogers Street Academy offers bilingual education to students in grades K3-8th grade 
    • Over 90% attendance rate and excellent parent engagement
    • Located on the city's South Side, which has historically experienced complex waves of immigration, the school is in walking distance from Mexican grocery stores, taco trucks, panaderias, and all types of Latino-owned businesses.

    South Division High School
    SDHS is a multicultural, multilingual community school. 9th grade focus, whole school interactions. South side of Milwaukee. Physical science and citizenship opportunities.

    • The 9th grade academy has a section of the school to themselves which helps to build a stronger community among City Year, our administrator, teachers, and students.
    • We also put a focus on college and career readiness. Corps members at South have the opportunity to lead on the College and Career Fair.
    • South Division is the most culturally diverse school in MPS. Bilingual and multilingual corps members are an asset to this team.
